Many of the early settlers in the Niagara region of Ontario Canada were former slaves seeking to escape their owners and repression in the United States. These freedom seekers relied upon a network of sympathizers and supporters called the Underground Railroad, who provided sanctuary and helped them cross the border to safety. Vacay.ca visits with Lezlie Harper Wells the owner of Niagara Bound Tours and a descendant of slaves to talk a little bit about the importance of Black History and of remembering our past.
