Cantiga 77 "Da que deus mamou"

Esta es cómo Santa María sanó en su iglesia, en Lugo, a una mujer que tenía encogidos los pies y las manos.

"No es maravilla que sane al tullido aquélla de quien Dios mamó la leche de su pecho."

De esto hizo Santa María un milagro hermoso, grande y piadoso, en su iglesia de Lugo, por una mujer que tenía paralítico y encogido por el mal lo más de su cuerpo.

Que sus dos manos, de tal manera se le habían encogido, que se metieron hasta los hombros, y los calcañares, y por la misma razón, se metían en el maltrecho cuerpo.

Después que vio que no la curaba ninguna medicina, se volvió a Santa María, la noble Reina, rogándole que no tomase a mal el que ella hubiera podido hacer, sino que en provecho suyo parase mientes en ella, de manera que sanase; y, si no que hiciera porque muriese pronto; y luego se hizo llevar en un lecho, pequeño y estrecho, ante su iglesia.

Y, estando allí, hizo vida virtuosa, hasta que alcanzó la merced de la Señora llena de todo bien, en el mes de agosto, en el día escogido de su fiesta grande, como referido os será ahora por mí. Porque aquel día hizo que la entrasen en la iglesia de Santa María; y la Virgen no dilató la resolución, sino que le volvió sano todo el cuerpo.

Pero sucedía de tal manera que allí donde sanaba, cada miembro, de suyo, estallaba, como la madera seca de un techo, cuando se extendía el músculo encogido.

El obispo y toda la gente que estaban delante, viendo esto y oyéndolo, y llorando fuertemente, vieron que fue un milagro y no una trampa, y alabaron a la Virgen muy de veras.




How Holy Mary cured a woman whose feet and hands were paralyzed in Her church of Holy Mary of Lugo*.

"It is not surprising that She who nursed God at Her breast can heal the cripple."

Concerning this, Holy Mary performed a great, beautiful, and merciful miracle in Her church in Lugo for a woman whose body was almost entirely paralyzed and shriveled with a disease.
Both her arms were so twisted that her hands were near her shoulders and her heels pressed into her misshapen body.
When she saw that no medicine could help her, she turned to Holy Mary, the Noble Queen, begging her to overlook any transgression which she might have committed against Her, and to take heed of her necessity to that She might cure her or else let her die soon. She had herself carried to the church in a small and narrow litter.
She lay there patiently until the Blessed Lady had compassion on her on the day of Her great feast in the month of August*. I shall recount for you how it happened.
On that day the woman had herself placed in the church of Holy Mary, and the Holy Virgin did not delay but straightened her body.
While she was being healed, each member gave a resounding crack like dry timbers in a roof when the shrunken tendon was stretched out.
The bishop and all the people standing there, seeing and hearing this and weeping with emotion, saw that it was a miracle and not a hoax and fervently praised the Virgin for it.
