    You're thinking of the 1950's. The 60's everything changed with the Beatles. Or maybe the Monkees would be a better fit for an example. After that attractiveness or style became marketable (packaged with whatever talent real or faked) into a money-making tool.

    Sure ugly people that made good music were still around and in some cases still popular in their own right but not in the same way.
