A Documentary on the mount pleasant building flats in Dublin during the late 1960s. These buildings were one of the most run down, tightly cramped, poverty stricken areas in Dublin at this time. Many people who lived here could not afford to pay their rent in their previous homes so their only alternative was to move into these accommodations, for the others these flats were merely all that they could ever afford to live in.

  • The Catholic Church made these people have scores of babies by banning contraceptions.

  • And my spoiled brat of an Irish Generation cry 'cause they havn't enough money to 'party' all weekend now or go on 4 or 5 holidays instead of 'only' 2 or 3. Recession my arse, God bless the Irish of the past and a better class of people in my opinion than the drunken, materialistic 'sex in the city' shits we have all around us now.

  • To all the Americans who are talking about the poverty. please remeber that it was no more then 15yrs after the war. The UK was still in poverty in the 60s, the US had a boom due to UK & Germany bombing each other. All the manufacturing went to the US. Many Irish cam to England for work, & was made welcome even though we had attack by the IRA. Rations were still in use, meat was a treat, you had to spare the coal. My grandparents came from Ireland in the 50s made a good life in England. War

These people are very much with it. They had to fight for what they had and needed.

  • i must seem out of place to say this, but my family used to live in the buildings (no 149) in the 60's and 70's, and my gran must have been lucky as she had 2 bedrooms and a toilet. maybe im looking thru rose coloured glasses, but i have nothing but happy memories whilst there!! we lived below "mrs dunn" who had 2 sons, one was a musician and the other went onto write scripts for rte!!
