( R E A D D E S C R I P T I O N )

Just an FYI, I changed the main character's name from Seraphina to Arianna. It seemed easier to remember :-)

[[ Episode 1 Part 2 ]]
"Why do you put up with his nonsense?!" Luke exclaimed on the other line.

It was another morning and my routine had already begun. I had stayed up till 4 in the morning studying for my Anatomy midterm and had only gotten 3 hours of sleep when Luke, my brother, had called.

"You need to stop living your life to please him," Luke continued, "You are 22 years old and if you continue this way, you'll never be happy. You'll wind up resenting dad and being bitter for the rest of your life. Is that what you want?"

Lucca, Luke for short, had always made everything sound so easy. Of course, for him it was. When Luke was 16 and I was 11, him and my dad had gotten into a huge fight which resulted in Luke packing up his belongings and moving away. Not only had my dad abused me since I was young, he also abused my brother, who was openly gay. The only difference between my brother and I, was that he fought back and I didn't. It's been years since my dad and brother have spoken but I have faith that one day they'll make a mends.

"No, that's not what I want," I responded, "But I don't want to disappoint him. I want him to be proud of me."

"See, that's the problem," Luke explained, "You care too much about what he wants, you put all of your dreams on the back burner. If he was a father like he claims to be, he'd encourage you to do whatever it is that you wanted. You're letting him dictate your life and ruin it."

Luke knew, even with out me having to say it, that Nursing wasn't something I wanted to do with my life. He knew I had too much of an imagination and I was too creative to be stuck in a career like Nursing. To be honest, Luke was the ONLY person who knew that I wanted to pursue Art. He was the only one I had ever showed my drawings to and the only person I would ever show them to.

"Listen kid," Luke continued, "I know that you love dad and you want to make him happy but it's your life and you are the only one who has to live it. I'd hate to see you miss out on all that life has to offer."

"I know Lucca," I mumbled, "But I just can't."

He let out a sigh on the other end of the line and knew that he had tried his hardest. And although I appreciated his advice and his encouragement, I just couldn't find it in myself to disappoint my father.

"Well, I have to get going," Luke responded, "I've got an interview with Pride Radio at 10. Hang in there kiddo, I love you."

"Love you too," I exclaimed, "Good luck!"

As I hung up, I reached for my keys and walked out the door. My midterm was at 10:30 and I still had some material that I needed to look over with my study group. As exhausted and worn out as I was, I kept telling myself that this would all pay off and eventually I'd find the good in all that my father has done. Eventually.

XOXO, SAM :-)
