@LeeandJacob123 Because Jimmy Page was Zeppelin's guitarist--and primary composer of "Stairway to Heaven."

You guys need to chill the fuck out. What's the matter if he ripped this off? That doesn't make the song any worse... ripping off is the way things go. Everyone gets inspired by other people's work and use that gathered knowledge to come up with something new.

How come the top comments are lies? Led Zeppelin was the one to take the notes, not Jimmy Page.
-
jimmy page not the only one to 'borrow' this. oasis - the masterplan

wait... stairway to heaven is said to be a "demonic" song which is the reason a lot of people think that led zeppelin are satanists, so if led zeppelin stole stairway to heaven... *CONSPIRACY*

Zeppelin opened for Spirit in 1968,if I remember correctly, and covered a couple of Spirits songs.Randy California was in a band with Jimi Hendrix,so you can see the influence between both Hendrix and California.

@Gettheledoutstyle Yes only people that hate Zeppelin don`t undesrtand and insist in this nonsense theory.

@zacadasilva you are exactly right and i don't know if you have listened to whole song for cry me a river but the last few notes are the SAME exact tempo too of the arpeggio page and spirit play in their riffs.. it was a common riff at the time that page made beautiful with an ascending melody.. page actually did something with the riff which in taurus is boring as fuck..AND ive read where page admits to davy graham riff being the initial inspiration for stairway.but even graham didnt invent it
-
that progression is fairly common well before the 1960s...listen to more music before you evaluate modern songs...classical music used most of these riffs for centuries
-
Stupid video. Spirit`s Taurus was taken from Davy Graham`s version for Cry me a River, released 10 years before. Jimmy Page is Davy Graham`s fan. By the way Spirit`s song Taurus is a piece of shit, is more similar to Ennya songs.
Yeah, Jimmy Page stole stuff... But he stole stuff and made it better, so we let it slide.

is one section the inspiration for the opening of Stairway to Heaven? Sounds like it probably is. But, it sure isn't an exact copy. So if Page took an idea and did something different with it (and Stairway to Heaven is VERY different from this)--then so what? Musicians have always gotten ideas from each other. Look at classical music--all kinds of motifs and ideas are taken and used in new compositions. This is good. So is Stairway.
