One of the single-biggest outreach events for Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church (AMRBC) in Moore, South Carolina each year happens ironically on Halloween night, says senior pastor D.J. Horton. The pastoral leadership and faithful members of the church gather together to provide a fun, safe environment for kids to go trick or treating by lining up their cars for Truck or Treat. This always attracts thousands of kids and their parents from the west side of Spartanburg, SC who would probably not otherwise step on campus for a "church" event.

On October 31, 2009, AMRBC had to move Trunk or Treat indoors because of rain, but that didn't stop the 2000+ people from marching through the line to get candy and being loved on by God's people. They came dressed in every costume imaginable and everyone seemed to have an awesome time young and old, big and small! Special thanks to Kathy Freeman for organizing and heading up this truly amazing event, especially with the last-minute decision to move it inside the church gym. WHEW!

  • THANKS! While it saddens me to see all that unhealthy garbage being passed out to kids, if they can find the source of joy and peace in their life as a result of coming to something like this then we can work on their nutrition later. :)

  • I think it's really nice to see a parish come together like that. Additionally, I think the ability to walk through an event that's at least partially based on the consumption of sugary, bad carbs is a true testament to your discipline to the low-carb lifestyle.

Any diet that becomes a way of life is optimal. You're not walking through the candy isle - you're smiling, having a great time, and being fun to be around. Good work!

  • Well, that's the way we do it, too, but the forecast didn't cooperate. It was raining for the first time on Halloween in a VERY long time. Everyone still had a great time and we actually had a record turnout! :)

  • Hey, they do this event at our church too... but we line our cars up and open up the trunk which we put all the candy in and give it out as the kids go car to car...loads of fun and a way to witness too...

  • It was so much fun!

  • This was great to see, such an awesome church community to provide a safe environment for children, big and small and adults to have fun.. lots of fantastic costumes..looks like everyone had a great time.

    thanks for sharing.
