Sean Bonniwell was really a hell of a guy... not just a great singer and songwriter but also a talented writer, gear expert, and all around nice guy.
He didn't know me in the least, but when I asked him for a little advice about songwriting and recording over facebook he responded at length about structure, style, mic technique, even fuzzbox and string selection. I couldn't believe that a legend of rock, one of my heroes, was not only willing but eager to help me out.
RIP Sean.

Howard (on the Big Bang Theory) looks like he'd belong in a band like this. Just a thought. This is STILL king tone.

"Perhaps configuring the fuzz to the thinnest (or most mellow) setting then pumping the amp's bass eq is a start .. almost no mid-range eq may or may not yield the desired effect (often depends on the forward pickup of your guitar).
Experimenting with Flat-wound heavy gauge strings tuned down a full step and combined with all the above is the recommended MO ..
Good luck & God bless,
sb "

Keith played a Hofner bass tuned a half-step down to Eb; all the guitars used heavy gauge flat-wound strings and were tuned to Eb.
The fuzz lines were played on Mark's guitar with the E string tuned down to D (for "Talk Talk"); the tone was accomplished by Keith's home-made fuzz box which, to my ears, has never been duplicated.
Avoiding that 'dark' sound the majority of pedals own is a challenge...." (continued)

there was nothing like this on the radio in 1966...absolutely a forerunner of 1970's punk. classic from beginning to end. One minute and 58 seconds of pure punk bliss.
