Here is a great drill from the DVD Great Hitting Drills Volume 1. This hitting drill will help develop a level swing.

Athletickid. squishing the bug applies ones hip weight straight down and destroys the necessary forward weight shift, some batters settle back into a form of the term after weight shift and contact is made.

  • kom_ervin here,

Last night One of the Cubs batters got himself an excellent hit and the ball was head high so in order for him to make what we all term as unusually great contact he had to have had his barrel on the same plane with the flight of the ball although he had his barrel up and tomahawked the ball.

  • kom_ervin here,

snerjecks observation is real close in his reference as to the ball path.

As the smartest & most focused & determined hitter of all time Mr. Ted Williams taught the baseball world many years ago that the barrel is brought "KEY STATEMENT,"[ down into a level plane with the downward flight of the ball] through and into a slight upwards movement. What ever the plane of the flight of the ball is on one must guide the barrel to it on the same plane in order to make successful contact.

  • kom_ervin here,

I have to agree with 81889697, the elbow is too high which positions the hands & knuckles in too much of an inward twisted position At 5ft. 11 inches I was always very comfortable with my elbows app. 12 to 14 inches apart which lined my top hand middle knuckles up in between my bottom hand 2nd & 3rd knuckles which also started me off in a good power position so I could utilize my hands & wrist properly in a forward flicking movement at the point of contact.

  • @81889697 one he is playing baseball not golf moron so it has to be up there

  • The kids back elbow it way to high to get a tight compact swing. He's losing all of his power.

  • How much did you pay for that specific netting?

  • Level refers to the ball path, not geographically level. As is the case in slow-pitch softball. A "level" swing is actually somewhat upwards as compared to a fast pitch swing.

  • very good! does he also learn 'squish the bug' too?

  • this kid is a good hitter
