This scene is from the 1987 film MADE IN HEAVEN starring Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis, now available on DVD from the Warner Archive. The song "We've Never Danced" was written by Neil Young and performed here by the great Matraca Berg, one of the top female songwriters in Country Music history. Her voice is as great as her songwriting, but she has been unable to receive the exposure as a singer that she has as a songwriter.

"We've Never Danced" was also recorded for the film by Martha Davis of The Motels, and that version is played during the end credits. That recording is the only one listed in the film's credits - where it is correctly listed twice. But there is no mention of Matraca Berg performing the song, so many people believe Martha Davis is the singer in the studio scene. Martha Davis' recording was included on the film's soundtrack album, as well as a compilation CD of The Motels. Matraca's recording of the song has never been released!

  • I love this movie the first time I saw it what a story and wow good cast love it.

  • @cdee007 It's more that he's absorbed in his own vanity that he doesn't see the guy with his label that he saw way before in heaven. Remember Elmo saw the dude with the label beffore in Heaven. It's a reminder. People wrap themselves into their own vanity esp when they're successful that they ignore the obvious. "Halo" was there to remind Mr. Elmo what he is and what his goal was(to find the girl again). Humans forget the obvious all the time.

  • I love that people are compelled from "Halo" Convict ass mother fuckers

  • I love this movie and I love Matraca Berg - too bad she was not acknowedged in the movie . This movie is hard to find but it was released on dvd in 2010.

  • Love this sequence, notice how Elmo doesn't even care that brian is there even though he has his own label. Completely absorbed in completing his goal of finishing the song.

  • We, each, are the choreographers of our dance, the lyricists of our song, and the architects of the design of our dwelling. They are in what I call, our Memory Castle; built with a Keep...a separate tower where we defend against the foe called Forgetting. The Keep is in its own time zone and patiently catalogues the various times of our lives in order to be akin to a general store where infinite aisles of the meadows of memory blossom with forget-me-nots.

  • @deanski9 ...Funny. Almost the same thing happened to me. I had not seen this movie since 1988. I only saw it once and then forgot about it. I was sitting up and thinking of a movie to get my wife and suddenly I remembered a tidbit from this movie for some reason. I searched the net for hours until I finally remembered the actress was Kelly McGillis, and BAAAAM! I found it title on IMDB. Tonight we watched it. My wife for the 1st time and me the 2nd in 23 years. Not a movie ANYONE should forget.
