An open letter to President Obama;

Dear President Obama:


I want to help clean up the oil spill. I had some ideas on how to help, and
stimulate the economy. This oil spill will require a massive effort to clean up.
I think a WPA style effort could be useful. BP has promised financial
responsibility for cleanup of the spill. If many of the unemployed people could
be hired by BP to clean the beaches and the water, carry waste, and other
services; there could be hope for the Gulf as well as the economy.
BP pays for the people to be housed. Americans donate tents, towels, everything that is needed. BP pays the empty hotels, campgrounds, host houses, all lodging for the workers. The government gives students a grant for hours served. All organizations and households could receive a tax credit for sending goods and services. This would help everyone. The people who need employment, the wildlife in the Gulf, BP's financial obligation being used where it is needed most.

All the Gulf and affected areas could be helped environmentally as well as
financially. This is an enormous undertaking that requires the country to pull
together in a concerted effort. This is the largest environmental disaster
America has ever had, preceded by the worst recession we have witnessed since the 30's.

This is the time to use our strength as a whole to get this job done. It will
require hands-on participation. We can use the technologies that we have come to rely on to make this happen; to get the word out. Americans need Jobs. BP has promised financial obligation . Our Government has the opportunity to be the designer of this symbiotic relationship.
