@carson11100 - The explanation is simple: This is not the original music! The first release of the film had a theatre organ version of the opening (after all Phibes is playing a theatre organ console) but for some reason the music was soon replaced with a cathedral version. I have a DVD with three language tracks and on the French track the theatre organ version is retained. Here the arms in the air fits the pauses in the music.

I love this movie, completely nonsense and wonderfully stylish. Vincent Price reigns supreme.

@carson11100 Organs have foot petals : that's it , that's the ticket . ( But you 're probably right ; it is a fuckup .
-
a critical fuck up would be in 2:09 he throws both his arms up and the music is still going

Pretty linens for first murder victim, like the greek key design . If I woke up & saw any kind of bat in my room, a new world record for sprinting would be set. Fantastique movie.

I am trying to figure out a movie from the 70's similar to this but the only scene I remember was a figure in a cape like Dr phibes and a girl steps in a shower and the caped person turns the heat up on the shower from the outside (?steam?) and she burns to death or melts. I watched it on TV with my dad and thought it had one these great old horror guys in it.
Best. Opening. Scene. EVER.
