Author Carolyn Jessop describes her escape from the FLDS, an ultra-fundamentalist offshoot of the Mormon Church.

-----

Carolyn Jessop was born into the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a group splintered from and renounced by the Mormon Church, and spent most of her life in Colorado City, Arizona, the main base of the FLDS.

Since leaving the group in 2003, she has lived in West Jordan, Utah, with her eight children. Jessop is the author of "Escape," the first-person account of life inside an ultra-fundamentalist American religious sect, and one woman's flight to freedom with her children. - Tattered Cover Bookstore

  • You are an inspiration. So many innocent people betrayed long before they are given an opportunity to understand. The hold they have over you is near incurable. Astonished you broke from your chains. Proud to be woman knowing...I want to set these children free. You truly are amazing...

  • @TheParishTorch Isn't that what religion is?

  • @TheParishTorch If religions are man-made...where do you think the idea of god came from? Where did the idea of jesus come from? They are man-made ideas. Created. By. Man.

  • The FLDS men should all be castrated.

  • @TheParishTorch so if your logic says cults are man made, then religion is a cult

  • @2011blueman Of course religions ate man-made, including Mormonism and Jehovah's witness, which are cults and Zen Budhism because they believe that enlightenment is through finding yourself, but having a relationship with Jesus Christ is not a religion. You have to understand that Christianity is a relationship with God's Only Son Jesus.

  • @TheParishTorch - Religions are man-made and can also be quite dangerous. Mainstream religions are just less extreme cults.

  • What a brave inspired woman , god bless you and your family.

  • @HisEmptyHouse When I say thank God I said it as an expression (on my side) of course it was her determination that got her out of there with all of her children she is a role model :)

  • @denister2008 I dunno about thanking god since it was her resilience, ingenuity, and determination that helped her survive & escape. I think I'd like to give credit where credit is due to this strong woman.
