Explore - Turkey - Istanbul & Anatolia 1 of 4 - BBC Travel Documentary, recorded 27.02.2011

Simon Reeve leads a team of journalists in a journey of discovery across Turkey. From the stunning mosques of Istanbul to the 'fairy chimneys' of Cappadocia and the forests of the Black Sea coast, Turkey is country of rich history and amazing landscapes. It is also a divided country where the pro-islamic government seems locked in conflict with the traditionally secular establishment, including the army, and where an armed conflict rumbles on with elements of the Kurdish minority in the South East.

  • Excuse but Turkeys Muslim population is 50 Million, not 17 Million

  • @dali121 < Ok i guess you are correct ... I uplod I do not check figures... 50 million ... thats quite a group of people ... So I ask what about Kurds and other minorities? Do they have equal rights???

  • I'm sorry but i am an American citizen along with being a Turkish citizen, i have to disagree with the facts that they are pulling out of this documentary. Yes there might be 99% ,uslim Turkish people in turkey but then again they dont see that there are multi different cultures and religions that still do go around in turkey. My self for example i am Armenian but speak the traditional Turkish language, there are vast amounts of different minority's in the country besides "Turks"

  • The Turks are not from Anatolia or Asia Minor they invaded this land in 400ce from Central Asia and Turkmenistan and they converted to Islam later on, this land originally belong to the Indo-European speaking people of the Hittite, Troyans, Galatians, Corinthians, Frisians, Bethany.

  • @hajkakane welcome to great turks land where is no disbeliver alowed

  • @RuniTravel turkey has one nation and everyone equel in it no colour no race diference not like your culture or country

  • I'm an Australian born Turk. Islam does not allow the consumation of alcohol or pigs. Those who indulge in these things are considered sinners, not disbelievers. If they reject the tenents of Islam, for example, they say "i eat pork becuase I don't believe its forbidden- that's what makes one a disbeliever. In any case, such people represent a small portion of the population in Turkey. I personaly find the thought Turks eating pigs insulting to my lineage and my grand father was a general.

  • Turkey not arabs

    Know it

  • @RuniTravel Howdidyoucometothatpoint, bbc is never objective everyone knows that.Well actually in turkey kurds have more rights than turks do, actually we have the same rights but when they throw rocks at the police and smack the police they dont go to jail, but unfortunately we do ;) And thekurd problem iscaused by the Europeanunion they are the on supporting pkk.we turks arenot racists like peoplein europe or america we know what you did to theAfricans in our point of view everyone is a turk

  • @shilpa88888 it's a custom in the northeast. we do that

  • i'm sick of the extreme emphasis on istanbul as being the "western face of the country". they make it sound like the rest of the country lives in caves. (which actually they do in cappadocia but that's a different story)
