To introduce mecahnical energy I have students build roller coasters for marbles out of foam pipe insulation (cut in half lenght wise).
After completing the lab if there is leftover time I encourage students to attempt stunts for the coaster and impress me. This is my '06-'07 physics class' attempt. Their goal was a jump through a flaming hoop and then landing the jump on another track and attempting some loops.
I refused to do a flaming until they were at least 80% consistent on their jumps, which took a long while. Although entertaining it is not as impressive as some other classes in the past because this group focused on doing lots of stunts rather than consistency and repeatability.
