One year mat erniety leavel for each child? I think that is bogus..
If you want children badly enough, either find a partner who works different hours than you (That is what my parents did)
Or get your finances together and work towards being able to afford it..
Also, who pays for the leave? If it is on the employer, I picture this adding additional discrimination against young women, afteralll why higher HER if you might be forced to pay for her to do nothing that benefits you?
You don't understand what the phrase "family values" means.
Imagine two flow charts. The EU version: each citizen is a member of a nation-state, the basic political unit. It cares & provides for you. You must do as it says, sacrifice for it, respect its authority to tell you how to live your life.
US version: it is the family, not the national govt, that is the basic unit, that cares for etc., & each family has the right to determine for itself what duties and privileges members have.
don't get me wrong, i have seen abusive men try to negatively dominate their families & claim it's something positive, but in a true christian household, the father should also fear God & treat his family with love as the bible commands him to.
discipline is done for the child to build him or her up. abuse is nothing more than a form of 'venting frustrations' on the father's part & tears the child down. discipline has positive results.
it is the duty of the parent to teach a child how to act correctly. children don't know this instinctively, that's why they have parents.
i don't like how he equates strict father households who believe in discipline with abuse of women & children. true discipline has nothing to do with abuse. they are completely different, but this man is confusing the two because in both situations the husband is the head of the household.
The reality is that there are two sets of values, and *either can be okay*, when it comes to raising kids. (It is a *myth* that only one side of the political spectrum has problems with abuse.)
The important thing is consistency. Everyone knows, obeys, and enforces rules viewed as legitimate.
Conservative parents will "produce" kids who are good workers, disciplined and hard working.
Liberal parents will "produce" kids who are creative and sensitive.
"The industrial revolution stripped away many of the functions from the traditional family. Education went to the schools, care of the elderly went to the state, work was tranfrerred to the factory, and so forth...The family did not disappear after the industrial revolution. But if became smaller, took on more limited responsibilty, and lost much of its power vis-a-vis other institutions in society." -- Alvin Toffler

It sounds like places like europe want an easy way out
By shoving their responsibilities towards other people.
Now, I guess I am not sure EXACTLY how maternity leave works, maybe I speak from ignorance..
I would be for mandotory leave, WITH OUT PAY.
As in, they are legally gauranteed their jobs back..

Society needs both.
I assume you only mean when it comes to how they discipline their children?
PLUS, It's as though you think that being creative and sensitive is mutually exclusive to being hard working and disciplined...
