More Than Cats and Dogs

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society works hard to serve more than just cats and dogs. At the GBHS Rescue and Rehabilitation Barn we also house and care for horses, ponies, donkeys, mules, chickens, goats, and the occasional other barn friends that need our help. Although the barn mostly houses horses, at any given time you will find one or more other barn friends there. All of the animals at the GBHS Rescue & Rehabilitation Barn were rescued from cruelty situations - neglect, starvation, abandonment, and even cock fighting operations or running at large - yes, some people not only abandon their livestock, but let them loose like you might find a stray dog or cat.
