I added a few things from the version that was up yesterday.

This is geared toward people really struggling with SF4. If you just jump in and do random jabs or specials, hoping your opponent will stop blocking, this is for you. It explains the premise and theory behind mix-up while showing exactly what to input as Ryu.

The "steps" might be something that take you a while. For instance, if you have a hard time learning to input the blockstring, "Step 1" might take you an hour in training mode to get the link down, then many matches before you can land it in a match without struggling. It's then time to move to step 2.

  • So your saying only mixup when you've trained your opponent to just sit there and block? But how many times in a match are you going to have the opportunity to take advantage of a knockdown? Wouldn't it be more effective to start the mix up early so you don't waste your knockdowns?

  • @guy9787 This tutorial is assuming you are still working on your execution and pretty new at the game. I'm kind of teaching you to use a safe basic block string that will punish them for not blocking. For your question, you really have to feel out your opponent to decide whether you should immediately go for something like tick throws or if you should first test the water and try to bait some DP's. If you are new and your opponent is unknown, I'd play it safe first.

  • About the first blockstring. I found it to be much better to use CMK instead of CHP/CMP. The reason is because I found that the CHP/CMP were almost always out of range after the two CLP. Using a CMK however, is always in range

  • @snuffsan You're right, the only reason I said to use cr. fierce is so people got used to it; you need to use cr. fierce to force a stand on a crouching opponent if you want to combo into hurricane kick.

  • The c.lk is good, I probably should have included it in the video, the advantage of c.lp is that it's easier to tick off of, but do throw in strings with c.lk as well.

  • Nice job.

My only comment would be to point out that in SF4, blockstun and hitstun differ. This being the case, most combos are not true block strings as most links become interruptable on block.

Otherwise I think this is a very good video. Well done.

  • You're right though if Rog is just standing there waiting for you to jump you're probably going to eat a c.fierce, that's why knockdowns are so important =)

  • option select tech throw would beat this method. Then again, this is a basic block string mix-up. The best mix-up's always begin when the opponent is knocked down with all characters. Mix-up's will also tie into air resets.

  • @jeremycarrier Yes. I have no idea how to do the Option selects and it's making me rage.

I always get future sighted by them. Like oh let's do an overhead for once but get dp'd. Fucking stupid.

  • Too bad about Option Select screwing up the mix-up game allowing you to block and mash out techs.

  • Holy crap this helped out so much; you have no idea. Thank you!

  • @dh3s1 Yeah what music was used?!! Sounds sick!

  • Nice vid. Anyone know the name of the music used?
