On the final weekday of HST operation on Virgin West Coast, 43098 and 43123 make a smokey exit from London Euston with the 1825 to Manchester Piccadilly on Friday 21st May 2004. This was to be their last ever departure from London Euston.
43098 and the set was transferred to sister company Virgin Cross Country the next day, with 43123 working one last time for Virgin XC the next day (see my Virgin Cross Country HST memories - Part 3 video) before transferring to Midland Mainline's 'Rio' fleet.
Note the tolling bell in the background as the train departs - very poignant, if coincidental.
I love the way the rear engine very suddenly roars as she increases power at 0:58, and screams as she powers down around 1:15. Sounds rather dramatic. :)

Brilliant stuff, loved it. Missed virtually all HSTs on VWC and all of them on VXC, so these videos are brilliant for me, allows me to see what I missed. And I missed plenty!
Cracking stuff, now subscribed to your videos and loved all of them!
