North by Northwest is a comic thriller by Alfred Hitchcock produced at MGM in 1959. The central theme is that of theater and play-acting, wherein everyone is playing a part, no one is who they seem, and identity is in flux.

I never thought I'd be intentionally watching opening credits to a film.

Actually a few years ago I played Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances, the last movement of which kinda sounds like this! Not that I expect to get many thumbs up for this...

It does raise a few eyebrows, but personally for me I find opening credits to be an art form unto themselves. The way I see it: a director who cares enough to include some cleverly executed credits will (hopefully) extend this same care to the overall movie.

I can't be the only one who realizes that this must have been a major influence on Koyaanisqatsi. watch?v=fY4L5npPdao

Yep, that was Hitchcock missing the bus, consistent with his tradition of making a cameo appearance in most if not all of his films.
