Boss lived out the last 7 years with us, in that time he over came so many problems caused from neglectful owners in the past. He gave us everything he had an was one of the best horses to have ever setteled in our pasture.
Though there had been many a winter when we thought he would not make it, he always seemed to prove us wrong. This year however despite it not being as harsh as some in the past it seemed his time had come.
I hope that he is with our other horses grazing in warm spring pastures an feelin his oats with Blue, Chester, Bucky an our mule Loddy who all passed before him, an that one day we will all be reunited.

When I first laid eyes on Boss it was 7 years ago, I had just come back from being away in South Carolina for a year, an moved into a trailer @ the south end of the county. our land lord had bought boss an anouther horse just prior to our moving in, an the dual pastures where on either side of our home.
Boss was in terrible shape. Thin an ragged, his leggs trembling his hide comming off like he had the manage. But still he pressed on. He went down a few times after eating molded hay that had been put out for him, but every time he would get back up but his flanks showed the pressure sores from his lying on the cold wet ground with no shelter.
It was gettin close to christmass when the land lord decided he was gona sell him, we had been living there a few months an I wanted to get him outa there an some place beter. We were sturggelingw ith money our selves, an even my parents where having abit of a hard time. But I was determined to save him. After making a deal with my mom we got togeather the 500$ that we really didn't have to spend an bought him. After 3 weeks of being tempoarily kept there he was moved over to the pasture where our other horses where.
Boss had rain rot (a bacterial an fungal infection that causes the hair to fall out an the skin to scab an puss) from th tips of his ears down to the hocks of his legs. He was so sunken in an thin that my mom called me an actualy tried to convince me he was a mare because his boot/sheith wasn't even hardly vsiible but i knew beter.
It took nearly a year to get his coat straightened out, the pressure sores almost healed an get soem decent weight on him. But my moms presistance paid off an before long she was taking him for short trail rides with me. Boss was never in ahurray, always just a relaxed slow pace when we rode. Though he would get up an go when needed he just always seemed to feelw hat his rider wanted an my mom was always content just to walk or ocassionaly canter. Some friends of the family whom we lease pasture from would often allow their lil girl to ride him while being lead. I always swore he was a godo kids horse. Before we bought him I had witnessed several times the land lords nephew get on himw ith only a lead an halter an no mater how hard she wiped him he wouldn't go past a walk he was always careful with young kids.
Several times my mom thought about giving him to our friend, or to my young neice who seemed to enjoy riding him every once in a while but she would change her mind. Boss would stay with us till his last days.
The last few winters seemed harder on the old man. he was gettin closer an closer to 40 an time was taking its tole on his body but not his heart an spirit. Our friend Tim had recently taken up feeding him since it was becommig difficult to get up there to the barn with all thats been going on in life.
One day though Boss didn't come to eat an it was discovered he had finaly passed away.

He now rests burried with past herde mates whom passed before him.
Rest in Peace Boss you deserve it. You where our small victory. A rescue whom proved us wrong so many times.
We love you.
