In 2011 Chicago will have a new mayor for the first time in over 20 years; the first time in many Chicago youth's lives. This election will be more than just political change, it's an opportunity for more inclusion, transparency, and broad civic engagement. Though many youth will not be of age to vote on February 22nd this election has as much to offer them as any other Chicago resident.
Dearmayor.com was created by the Mikva Challenge Foundation to give Chicago's youth a space to share with mayoral candidates their issues, their needs, their opinions, and most importantly their vision for Chicago. Submissions can take the form of a simple letter, poem, photograph, artwork, or music. We even offer a discussion space for youth who just want to quickly leave their thoughts on key issues. The idea is to have youth express themselves by whatever means they choose.
