I made a self‐setting clock using my improved light sensor. No longer will a man be forced to reset his clock every time he returns from travelling.

The clock sets itself shortly at twilight and is accurate to about fifteen seconds or twenty Minecraft minutes. Rain is not a problem, though thunderstorms might be, if one is unlucky. I could add robust thunderstorm protection, but it would increase the size significantly.

As with all clocks, it could be used to display time, chime the hours, turn on/off lights, raise drawbridges, &c. The possibilities are endless, really.

The clock is very flexible and can easily be modified to use more or fewer light sensors for the required accuracy, to be set at dawn instead of dusk, or to compensate for delay in complex display circuitry. Output wires are all lined up at the side of the clock, easing integration. All things considered, it's also rather compact. I've seen clocks four times its size that weren't self‐setting.

  • Nice! I downloaded it today and is experimenting/taking apart to learn about it right now, but I just have one problem. That is the two second clock, the torches keep burning out after a little bit, maybe find a better/piston version of the clock to prevent that? That's what I'm working on right now actually. Anyways, Love it

I only had torch burnout when I messed around with time commands. Using single player commands, setting the hour or setting the time to day or night seemed to caused no problems, but setting the minute or the day often broke it. The problem was always resolved by waiting or by messing around with the time some more.

The reason I used a clock based entirely on torches is that redstone repeaters can get stuck on world or chunk load.

  • just craft a clock !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whoa! So the light sensors are like jewels in a pocket watch. The more you have the greater the accuracy.

  • I just look for the sun.

  • very cool, but uh..... i spent like 30 min wiring up hibachis yesterday in the better than wolves mod. my brain is not in a redstone understanding mood 0.o
