Michael Reynolds shows us how to peel a viga, which is a giant log from the mountains. These logs are from trees that are already dead, 'standing dead' trees.

  • Interesting

  • do you have to guard the log from termites, and if so how and what natural products could i use?.

  • could use an adze

  • I like my spud for peeling, and in the spring when the sap is running. The bark just falls off the log.

  • You need a different axe--a broad head one that's designed just for that job. They do make 'em ya'know.

  • Im not bitching or anything, it just seemed like the "standing dead trees" wert so inportant. But they are, they provide shelter and food for birds and other animals. Dead trees are an ecosystem in an ecosystem.

    Just saying :)

  • I hear you. I am waiting for my Dad to yell at me any second now.

  • viga means beam in spanish.

  • That's some really good choppin!
