The symposium addressed the life and work of Marley by bringing together associates of the late musician, composer, Rastafarian, and world-culture icon, including Chris Blackwell, founder, Island Records and Christopher John. The first event kicked off on November 16; followed by a panel discussion with scholars Robert Hill of UCLA, Herbie Miller of the Edna Manley College of the Visual & Performing Arts, Jamaica, as well as musician Ibo Cooper of the Edna Manley College on November 17th.

A launch of Review 81 - Bob Marley and His Legacy, Fall 2010 -- wrapped up the event on November 18th and featured guest editors Lorna Goodison From Harvey River; Christopher Winks of Queens College/CUNY and poets/writers including Jacqueline Bishop, Kwame Dawes, and Shara McCallum.

All three events were held at Americas Society, 680 Park Avenue, New York, NY in collaboration with the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York and InterAmericas.

  • Jimmy Cliff is on the level of Bob Marley...I think this interviewer got it wrong...There are many good reggae singers out there and a few that are exceptional...Jimmy's success internationally has made him a household name right across the world, just like Bob, and though he's not as famous as Bob, he's in the same category as Bob in terms of his professionalism, creativity and vocal abilities...Had Peter Tosh lived, I have no doubt that he would've reached the level that Bob reached.
