Before the availability of steam and gas engines, horse and wind were the main source of power.
This video shows how a horse walking on an inclined treadmill can power a small grain separator.

  • Both comments exactly on the mark. Really interesting piece of equip. You could figure such horse-power machines had to exist, but seeing one is excellent. Where was this filmed? Terrific clip. I wish I could have seen it live!

  • Check the video I posted on a ten horse sweep, also at Pioneer Power. It is under

    railnwings.

These are operated annualy at their show near Le Sueur, MN

  • should have given the horse 8 more inches of line. It was making noise because it wanted its neck in line with its posture

  • Neck rope was too short for the horse's preferred posture, it was trying to tell them lol Her neck and back must of been driving her crazy! They would of gotten more speed and time from the horse day to day, and it would live longer as well. Great design on the machine : )

  • Talk about old school.

  • @misntroya Lol, there are horses who are smarter than mules an donkeys as well. Nonetheless, the intelligence doesn't have anything to do with the breed/species. There are animals smarter than their own kind and other ones, just like there are humans smarter than other ones etc. =)

  • @jscott1000 Actually mules and donkeys are smarter than horses.

  • @jscott1000 mules are to stubborn....

  • I've heard about these things, but never seen one run...I've heard the (oldtimers) talk about them... Yes, they worked the heck out of the horses... but then in old days they used work horses that were used to it and they were spelled off.... if done properley, it wasn't to bad on the horse... but they also said that the Tractor was a God send to a lot of horses!!!

  • umm, lets forget about how "cool" it is, and focus on how scared that horse is.. thats not right. you should put your horse before yourself.

  • Have people not heard of collection? When I collect my horse up, her neck is level with her back and going up hill it goes lower, much like what this horse here is doing. It will not shorten the horse's life.

  • OMG some people must be really fools. This horse is not "telling" anything about the lenght of this rope. It is possible that he/she was calling for a buddy of hers/hes. Taking the fackt that the horse is going uphill, it has enough rope as it is natural to stretch the neck down if going uphill.

  • Looks like a standardbred :)

  • If they put a bull in there, would it be "Bull Powered?

    I don't think he's having a very good time....
