Video Game Dudes Episode 4

With todays episode this story has now drawn to a close. Or rather, this chapter has drawn to a close, because we obviously have a lot ripples and repercussions of these events yet to see, and entirely new situations and storylines waiting to be told. This chapter has taken me the better part of a year to tell, from Amy revealing that she was pregnant, to now.

It is both the largest story arc I have told to date, and one of the largest of the entire overall story of these characters. It was, without a doubt, a challenge and a departure for me. To use not only slapstick comedy, but also drama, suspense and romance as the vehicles for telling a story. To try something new.

It was incredibly fun and exciting for me as a writer. Not only to finally dive into these events that Id been planning for years, but to watch the audience respond to the different elements with such a wide spectrum of reactions. There were a number of times when Id pop into the forums and skim threads, some of which had gotten up to twenty pages of speculation, guesses, debates etc. And it was really fun for me as the author to read some of it, to watch you all discuss the story and where you thought it would/should go. And I wanted to thank you for that experience.

But even more so, I wanted to thank you for your support. I knew, going into a story like this, that it was not going to please everyone. Some people just want games games games, 24/7 and some people just want a fifteen second giggle and then move on with their day. When I decided to tell this storyline, and how I wanted to tell it, I had to ask myself Are you okay with losing a few viewers in order to do this the way you want to do it? The answer, as an artist, a writer, and just as a person, was yes. It will always be more important to me to be happy with my work and enjoy my work than to have other people be happy with and enjoy my work.

And so, on the tail end of this huge undertaking this year, this big learning process for me, and trying new things I thank you. For supporting me and for supporting my right to try new things, and to run my cartoon as I see fit. To those of you that enjoy the storylines, and especially to those of you that just want gaming references, yet accept that thats not all that this cartoon is, and show that patience.
