Hybrid Moments - Pat Byrne with Ted Leo and The Pharmacists

Believe it or not, this was actually filmed by Andrew W. K.! It was taken from my performance at New York Magazine's annual "Indie Rock Karaoke". This year had Ted Leo/Pharmacists as the house band and Andrew W. K. as the host. Ted and the guys did an entire rocking set before the karaoke even started.

I woke up that morning with no voice, but having bought the tickets a few days before and knowing about it for weeks, there was nothing I was going to let stop me from signing a tune with one of my favorite bands. When I finally got there that night, there was only one song left on the Karaoke sign up list, and it was "Born in the USA", by the Boss. Now, I grew up listening to Bruce so, don't get me wrong, I'm quite the fan but... I really don't much like that song being that it's one of his most popular. Regardless, I decided that it was better than nothing and maybe... just maybe, I could convince them to do another song... Since I'd seen them cover "Hybrid Moments" at live shows in the past, I knew they knew it. And I figured with the little bit of voice I had gained back, I could probably handle Danzig's low vocal range... Andrew W.K. introduced me as the band got ready to rock "Born in the USA" but I grabbed the mic and stated my plea, to which Leo and the boys shouted back: "Good Call!" and so it was...

You're totally right! Can't believe I goofed on that... I know his name's Chris but, I opened my mouth and out came 'Steve'. I was pretty discombobulated after that performance... Not to mention I addressed 'Marty' on bass as 'Matt'...
