Dorje Khatri, a Nepalese Sherpa, is a member of the ITUC delegation participating in the proceedings of the UN climate conference (UNFCCC COP17) in Durban (Nov/Dec 2011). He is a member of the mountain guides' union, Unitrav. His home village is in the shadow of Kanchinjunga, the third highest peak in the Himalayas. He recounts planting the ITUC flag on the summit of Mt Everest, and describes the impact of climate change in the Himalayas on the livelihoods of the Sherpas.
