Drivecam: Summer + Fall 2011

1) Car accident on US-20. Two cars are moderately damaged and a light pole is knocked down. I try to be polite and let 3 cars in, but of course one a**hole has to cut me off afterwards.

2) A minivan runs a yellow/red light and a lawn care truck makes a left turn on the red, cutting off the minivan. A collision almost occurs.

3) I am almost rear ended because a car behind me changes into my lane and doesn't see the light change. I didn't want to run the light because of the left turner.

4) I almost get side-swiped because, for whatever reason, a driver is stopped in the right lane on US-20. The lady next to me swerves over and I have to swerve into the center turning lane.

5) A car makes a blind left turn in front of me. If I had arrived a second earlier than I did, I would've hit them.

6) Road rage incident. Car behind me (red Ford Focus) goes straight in a right-turn-only lane. The SUV behind me gets pissed off and drives up to my rear bumper so that the car can't merge in. The car sits in my blind spot until the last second when I honk at them. The two drivers later meet and have a heated discussion with honking, swearing, and hand gestures.

7) Semi driver makes an avoidable left turn and ends up mounting the curb and holding up traffic.

8) Driver races down the road, going over the speed limit in dark and wet conditions. They cut me off so they could get one car ahead of me.

9) Center turning lane produces an ambiguous right-of-way situation.

10) Public transit bus that I used to ride possibly had an engine fire.

11) Car broken down in the middle of the Bayfront Connector which lacks shoulders and emergency pull-offs (none were near this section).

12) Car makes a left turn in a straight-ahead-only lane during rush hour with a semi behind me.

13) Cars almost collide because of a lane shift that the right car didn't notice.

14) Car driving at night with no lights (not even parking lights).

15) Jaywalker extravaganza.

damn crazy capture there! crazy scene with first clip! 1:26 was very close, I dont get it sometimes how can they not see the van coming and for the van they had time to stop! accidents happen alot that way because people always trying to beat the lights! great road rage catch, that was crazy! center lane turn with the confused van I think are good but seems to bring some stupidity with some drivers! 7:05 wow I cant believe some things people do seriously!! great captures and keep it up (safely)

@rextinctione Yeah, it's always dangerous when both people try to beat the light at the same time. And then I try stopping and not beating the light and almost get rear-ended lol. Can't win either way, but I'd rather get rear-ended than get struck head-on. Stay safe.

@machsad1 Finally got around to putting together all the videos before my Thanksgiving break is over. Center turning lanes have so many dangers in them, yet I think they are better than the alternative of clogging the left lanes of the road with left turners. And I don't know what the driver at 7:20 was looking at. They had their signal on as they approached the left turn lane, but they just stayed in the center lane.

1:00 nice hi-lo siren, responding Euro style LOL. Following on from what casmatori said, I find it weird that you have sedan versions of hatchbacks, sedans are pretty rare here, our roads don't really suit them as well as hatchbacks... and they don't make sense to me LOL.

@04smallmj Yeah, it was unusual for them to use the hi-lo pattern. Hatchbacks seem to be gaining popularity here, but there are still a lot of sedans. I've never been in a hatchback before. When I look for a more practical car when I move to a large city (within the next year), I'm definitely going to test drive a few hatchbacks. Until then, I'll just have to settle with chugging gasoline in my Jeep lol.

@DrivingandDashcam I can see why you don't like 2/3 door hatchbacks, I don't really either. I was talking mainly about 5 door hatchbacks :P

Oh yes, speeding is my friend's thing. He also don't use his seat belt until I asked him if he doesn't care about losing his life. He started use it since I said that. Speeding? It's still his thing. I used to be speeder after my road test, for a month later I nearly got in bad accident and that's why I started to set up camera and you can kind of see that I'm still try to change my habit from my reckless driving.

Well, probably because of we don't feel like to flipping front seat forward to let other people into back seats? Lol I dunno, I don't really like hatchback vehicles or only 2-doors for some reason. I'm thankful that my car is sedan :P

@DrivingandDashcam People don't realize how dangerous it is until something goes wrong and somebody gets hurt or dies. Until then, they'll still think it's cool and fun. Speed isn't my thing, otherwise I would not be driving a Jeep lol.

@theXcenter Yeah, I didn't find out anything else about the bus fire and MVA because the news never reports on accidents that happen out here.
