  • Finally, what I've been waiting for since ATV2 was released. Been using xbmc from the start on an original xbox. How is the ATV2 handling say 12GB 1080p .mkv's? If it can handle those well enough this is a huge win.

  • @cyberzita atv 2g only outputs in 720p as far as I can tell. XBMC has support for 1080p with Crystal HD but in order to add that, you would be sacrificing your 802.11 wireless, which if you're hardwired is not a huge deal. Even then however, from what i've read on the forums, 1080p playback has been having issues regardless. Hopefully there will be a fix soon.

  • The ATV2 only plays 720p and it can sometimes be laggy on certain videos.

  • @jmcgehee4 apple tv2 does not support true 1080 anyways the hardware is not sufficient, however with the release of XMBC 11.0 there are supposed to be improvements however the apple tv2 will never support 1080p

  • @HMCreviews you google it

  • will the AirPlay still works?

And will it play RMVB files?

  • Question, to download stream, fanart etc etc... do you need an external source (ie. computer in same wifi) or it stores it in the supposely 8gb internal HDD integrated with apple tv. Thanks

  • HOW DO YOU GET MOVIES ON YOUR XBMC??? PLEASE I NEED HELP...

  • what good apps are there for Apple TV 2?, and how do we place our various formatted movies on there?, is it just like an Ipodtouch copy and paste files on itunes?

  • @Squa7ch yes XBMC on AppleTV2 will play mkv files fine

  • @mcpish Sweet, thanks...might be buying one then :) no more PC in the living room when everyone wants to watch a movie xD .mkv format is fine then?

  • @zippo811 You stream video to it from a file server on your network using standard file sharing protocols (SMB, uPNP). So you basically point XBMC to your shared directories of movies/tv shows on any of the computers on your home network. No need for iTunes with this, you just point to a standard Windows share or Samba share (Linux).
