MKT Extra 197 grinds east past Leffingwell Ave. in Kirkwood, Mo. The date is 8-21-1988, and this is the Final MKT Train to pass Kirkwood. On 8-22-2010, the Katy was no longer an independent railroad, but a ward of the Union Pacific. The Katy lasted as a UP subisidary until December 1st, 1989, when it was formaly merged into the Union Pacific Railroad.

  • wow no old patched ICG or CONRAIL units in the consist!!......9 out of 10 MKT trains had em towards the end neat to see a bright blue Conrail unit with a little green patch that said MKT or orange & white ICG units patched as MKT the Katy was really strapped for cash at the end never repainted 2nd hand units they would buy

  • Nice Power & good Train, That Sunday was one to Remember. I agree with You 4gkidsplusBabs

  • This video brings back memories. I remember watching Mo-Pac and MKT roll past the Kirkwood train station when I was a kid.

  • @dumbasscracker The now abandoned Carondolet Subdivision

  • you gotta love the sound of aGP40 in run position 8

  • Gotta love the sound those GP 40 at notch 8

  • I miss the ole MKT line, but then I an old retired ATSF 2945 Engineer. I also miss a lot of the ole fallen flags. Great video on an old memory.

  • You may want to correct the year in your vid description. I think you mean that 8-22-1988, not 8-22-2010, was when the Katy was no longer independent. Great video, I always enjoy seeing classic fallen flag footage. :)

  • @BNSF2184 i agree I wish they had used the Green and Yellow

  • I hate using foul language, but this is FUCKING KILLER.

  • Good video.

  • Oh wow.... awesome video.... -After closure of it's own line to St. Louis in 1986, the Katy used UP's mainline from Sedalia, MO to access its connections and intermodel facility at Baden yard in St. Louis. That's all gone today. This lends so much imagery to anyone who wants to imagine scenes on the now empty roadbed north of the Missouri River. This is really special, because its very difficult to find any videos of the Katy in MO during the 1960's, 70's, and 80's.Thanks so much for posting!

  • @BNSF2184 yes I agree, to bad 1988 isn't in this color

  • @BNSF700

Me too. Yellow and green is better than that crappy red on the 1988

  • love that katy

  • sweet video jim, I prefer that paint scheme on the MKT

  • Awesome! long live the Katy.

  • Long live The Katy. Great footage by George Redmond, and thank you Jim for uploading it. :)
