The Tower Ballroom in Blackpool, England. With Bertini and his Blackpool Tower Dance Orchestra playing: Down An Old Irish Lane in 1934 and Ted Weems and his Orchestra playing: Nothin' On My Mind in 1928.

  • The downside - no deodorant and no air conditioning...

    People took baths less frequently,too.

    So maybe we are better off watching than being there, with our modern sensibilities :)

  • They had perfume and other bottled scents which were often sprayed on their body and clothes in the powder room or at home. The roof above the ballroom was able to slide open to allow fresh air in and to let romantic couples dance under the stars at night.

  • Thanks. I became interested in this era when I studied the Titanic disaster in school. I admired the fashions, the music, the motor cars, the ocean liners, and above all the high standards and morals of the day.
