People seem to have strong feelings regarding the Apollo missions. I have plenty of questions about the missions but thought I'd post this clip from NASA's website http://history.nasa.gov/alsj/a17/video17.html regarding Apollo 17 to start some discussion.
The Apollo 17 mission had three astronauts, Gene Cernan and Jack Schmitt, who spent over 3 days on the lunar surface, and Ron Evans who stayed in lunar orbit. In this short clip you can hear Gene and Jack talking with "Bob" at Ground Control. The problem is that the moon is 200,000 miles from the earth, and thus any transmission back and forth should have at least a 2 second delay between the astronauts and Ground Control (more than 1 second in each direction for each transmission at light speed). If these astronauts are indeed on the moon, how are they conversing with Ground Control without such a delay?
My questions do not hinge around pre-drawn conclusions of deception or conspiracy. I am simply asking questions and gathering facts. Please keep your comments civil and reasoned. And remember ...

@Mattinblack (contd) listen it. it's like the dth service we view. if you just take the signal from a dish and process it without decoding the actual information, you'd see just colorful lines on your tv screen. nasa had to encrypt the audio/video to make sure it's not received by any other spy agency that might possibly misuse that signal. that's why you hear delays seeing a reporter respond to the newsreader's question. and that's just on this earth (< 40,000km)!

@Mattinblack i'd beg to disagree on this. let me explain why. radio communication happens only at the speed of light. so when the radio wave - un/encrypted/processed &c - leaves the radiating antenna, it takes only just exactly 1.282216866666 seconds for such a wave to reach the receptor antenna on the moon. the encryption i mentioned is the actual processing of audible portion like hi-pass filter, noise attenuation &c besides coding the audio so no one else is able to (contd)

@zambi007i Err... encryption? That has nothing to do with it. The point is that the radio waves themselves take a long time to travel from moon to earth. Far longer than any delays on this clip for sure!

you've a very valid logic there. i raised the same years ago when i didn't believe the apollo landings happened.
in the 1960s 2-way communication didn't have to go thru so much of encryption. a simple 4-bit encoding was enough for "enemies" to have a tough time snooping on the chit-chats. the whole process from 'mic' ing the audio to filtering noise to encrypting to receiving and decrypting is still the same 'quick' if 4-bit is used. the only lag is about 1 sec which is clear in the vids.

@Blahblobify I gave you the video fool, more studies is more radiation not less idiot, can't you comprehend? Even if you don't believe the whole videos, you can believe the fact that NASA forced him to retract, just like every other scientist that value their careers. If you go against NASA do you think you will continue to be employed with them with such damaging information from inside sources? Free marketing makes NASA's accomplishments today and yesterday an obvious lie. It called to me...

@GUARDIANtrooper
Oh, so he said it in 1958, then retracted it after more study.
But that didn't stop you from using the quote as "proof"?
THAT still makes you a liar.

@Blahblobify MoonFaker: Radioactive Anomaly. Start with PART 5. Van Allen said it in the March 1958 issue of "Scientific American." He later retracted his statement saying, "We mush have made a mistake," with the Geiger counter? Nevertheless, the Geiger counter went off the carts, so high in fact, it jammed. They then tried to protected it to get a reading and the reading was not open to the public. This was televised as you will see on these videos in plan view for idiots like you...

Van Allen said no such thing liar.

Wasnt there a massive solar flare in shortly after they landed?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this clip. It was recorded on earth so there need be no delay between an astronaut and Capcom's response. I do hear the proper delays after a Capcom stops talking and an astronaut replies. At one point they even talk over each other because of the confusion caused by the long delay.
