  • I actually liked the second place dog better than the first.

  • Im in 4-H, and im showing a GSD next year. are you suppose to let your GSD be ahead of when you gait him? (0:24) or is that just the German way?

  • @arklimjon Sadly I know that the GSD's are not the only breed who suffer from bad breeders. There are enough other cases of dogs being bred to fit a paper standard versus function. Let me restate that i have no problem with angulation until it hurts the dog. I'm only saying that too many people don't do the research, don't OFA , Don't check for things like DM etc etc when they breed their dogs. And their are plenty of show dogs with problems that should not be bred but are.

  • @arklimjon to see what im talking about please look at

Breeding Class: VA1 Zamp vom Thermodos here on youtube

This is what i mean when i say over angulation only one of these dogs has any sort of proper movement

  • @LionessCub1

I suggest you read more about the gsd evolution, a good summary is in this site : type in: german shepherd dogs: important pillars of the breed good day!

  • @gsdwindborne

I can't agree with you more, these people must've thought that the evolution of the gsd breed was simply a farmer john little backyard project, & think that dog ownership alone makes you an authority to comment about selective breeding and dog structure.

  • @LionessCub1

not bad you say? these videos show VA rated specimen (excellent select).. only 8-12 carefully selected out of something like 2000 beautiful dogs qualify & entered in germany every year get that honor & they sell like 50,000 euros or more, so it's more than anything decent. You don't have to be a gsd fancier,a watchful eye can easily see the fluid movement of these show specimen,& this type of movement can never be replicated by a specimen with mediocre angulation and proportions.

  • @LionessCub1

you have to understand that most of these dogs we are enjoying now are products of human intervention. we think miniaturized versions of various dogs are cute, but if you

look at the health problems they have because of the miniaturization, you'll see a way longer list.

I love the present look of the german shepherd today, its one of the best looking, best moving dogs ever. but again, like any breed, irresponsible care by humans result to destruction of any breed.

  • @LionessCub1

that my friend, is the responsibility of the people, human beings or caretakers of the dogs . The SV (germany, mother club) sees to it that you can only breed specimens that have OFA certified Hips for breeding, even eye color, pigmentation is closely monitored, otherwise, they will never allow you to breed them, but once the dogs are brought abroad, its beyond their control already & that's where irresponsible breeding happens.. these problems are not isolated cases only in gsds.

  • @arklimjon Not saying that all show dogs are horrible, But you have to admit that some of the dogs that are being bred for show have ATROCIOUS angulation. Not towards the breed standard but as to the health of the dog in general. Angulation is fine and lovely as long as it isn't to the point where it is hurting the dog both is health and in function. You have to admit there are far to many GSD's with wobbly hocks, and/or have no power in their back legs.

  • @gsdwindborne I think that people have seen far too many over-angulated dogs And therefore can have a knee-jerk reaction when they see a dog with any angulation. Yes, Gsd's are meant to gait There is an excellent example on you tube if you type in "gaiting German shepherd." This Dog does not look like some of the high-stepping "hyena types" with wobbly hocks that are too often bred today. The dogs in this video weren't all that bad some of them were quite decent IMO

  • i have never read such ignorance of dog structure in my life, angulation is correct for this breed,as long as it is balanced front&rear, and sweetheart ,movement denotes correct structure, there is no way a dog can move correctly, without angulation,in the front&rear both, and sorry this is a gaiting breed, calling for effortless ground covering movement,at a trot!breeder, exhibitor, enthusiast,of quality gsd's for over 30 yrs.

  • I didn't mean to tell you which dog you should have, but it sounds absurd that you're questioning the breed wardens of the gsd as to how they develop their own breed. They have miles and ages of experience and knowledge that you can never imagine, from special techniques in breeding to as deep as genetic engineering.Nobody is questioning your preferences at all.I own a show gsd and admire its beauty and movement,& I also own a tervuren for a sentrydog. both beautiful dogs for different purposes

  • ok, just to give you an example, uran wildsteigerland runs on a trot for 30 miles straight (no rest) everyday following a pickup truck and doesn't show signs of fatigue. If you don't know who uran is, then you need to research more about gsds or watch some siegershows how they run for hours around the oval. Your dog may perform suberbly in the agility ring but let's see him/her in the track oval.

  • Yes, the original gsd , or what we call the old lines should probably suit you more if you're not in favor of the present look. You can look for lineages coming from cello romerau, I think he's one of the old lines who didn't descend from the standards now.

  • sorry for labelling you as a guy, but I don't take back what I said about your opinions in the gsd standard. The show lines or the new generation shepherds started by wienerau and arminius are based on improving forearm and rear angulations to cover more ground with less effort. Just look at how a sieger runs compared to your prized agility dog and you'll see why.

  • And who are you to tell me what kind of breed I should have? I actually got a beautiful, well constructed GSD who would outrun these completely ruined dogs by several miles.

  • First of all, I'm not a guy. Second of all the angulation you call proper, has nothing to do with healthy construction. And if you think that angulations like these could make a dog last longer in long distances, you are definetly wrong.

If you take a look at how the original GSD looked like, you would not see angulations like these ones. You would see perfectly healthy looking dogs, not like the horrible examples on this video.

  • I can see that you are an agility guy, sorry, but better stick with agility breeds or working shepherds with high croups and straight hocks. a gsd is bred to have the proper angulation (high leverage, like a wiper) to cover more track with least effort therefore can last longer in long distances compared to working shepherds designed to sprint, jump, and attack.

  • Excelente video! Ya veo porque Yerom vom Haus Salihin fue VA2 en Ulm 2009. Me gusta mas Yerom y Yukon mas que el Sieger Vegas.

  • To all the people who know nothing about German shepherd, better ask before. The program Pedigree Dog Exposed, those German Shepherds have problems in the hind legs being unsuitable for breeding.

the rump is natural because the German shepherd is a large distances dog trotting.

  • Yeah it doesent really matter if the dogs can walk normal. Its really horrible that this just continue to go on, you dont have to be that smart to se that this just aint healthy!

  • It is disgusting that you cant see that these animals, are definitely not healthy! The breed standard leads to HD and skeleton problems for the proud, beautiful German Shepherd dog. Everyone can se that that construction of the hind legs and their back is not what a good German Shepherd dog should have.

I recommend you watch "Pedigree Dogs Exposed" and take a good look at the close up pictures of German Shepherd dogs back and hind legs construction. The German Shepherd dog is falling apart.

  • beautiful animals!
