I sing in Australian heavy metal band Avarin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVqyI3JJ-74)
and have guested on Empires of Eden (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fni1gC_smM)
here tackling an operatic piece that possibly should have been left well alone - considering not only has the aria been done to death and over again, but I am also very aware that I am not an opera singer!
However, this version was not intended to be strictly operatic, and there are several key points where a 100% classically trained singer who spent years working hard to come middle of their class at the Julliard school, will haughtily turn their proud nose at the smell of a 20% classically trained singer crooning his way through Puccini's soaring masterpiece.
Meh.
This music has been deep in my blood from a very young age, and although the bug of heavy metal overpowered the bug of opera it could easily have gone the other way! This is my semi metallic/operatic tribute to my musical roots anyway, with possibly more to come... *cue spooky music*
Q. Why the funny pictures? Why not something serious instead? Isn't this making fun of Puccini? What's the point?
A. Just cause, cause I didn't want to, no it's not, and there is none.
Also, I do not own the copyright to any of the creative content contained within. Sorry :(
good job though. Ian Gillian said this particular aria could easily be a rock song.
