I've had a fair few off my R1.... its the insitictive reaction of jamming the throttle closed, which causes the tyre to suddenly BITE into the tarmac as your correcting the wheelspin and the slide.

@light317. nearly right m8, the tyre spins due to the amount of throttle agaisnt how far the bikes leant over, too much throttle when there isnt enough contact surface between the tyre and the tarmac, this causes it too spin. and its the spinning which when the tyre grips; causes the bike to flip in the opposite direction as it bites into the tarmac again. thats why when they JUST slide (drift), they normally hang on! this is what makes highside, pretty much unsavable once uve commited the power

the rear tire looses grip and slides. then, all of a sudden it gets grip and flings you up causing a high-side.
