Well, I'm a player. I use a medium open SS Berg Larson on my Mark VI tenor and a Yani #7 on my Keilwerth Alto. Booth are baffle free, loud, and very bright. Baffles and the "lay" contribute more to brightness than the material the mouthpiece is made of... in my opinion. BTW I've had the Berg since 1963. Yea, I know... that makes me an official Old Fart!
That's the amazing thing about the Saxophone, Robert is a great student of Phil, probably right down to the exact model sax, mouth piece and reed. That does not equate to sounding like phil. Woodwinds actually extend the sound column to include the mouth and throat size and shape. It's the total column that is responsible for a players sound. That being said, Robert plays his ass off. HHe is one to watch. And his sound is somewhat brighter. More modern??
The audio is terrible, however Robert cuts through like a beacon in the night. BTW he should sound a lot like Phil, He studied with Phil for several years in New York.

Yes the modern sound is much more brighter... that's why metal mouthpieces are very acceptable with altos now too...
