If someone tries to sell you a kayak with rod holder or add on rodholders, just say no. The best way to have rodholders on your kayak is to attach PVC pipe to a soda pop crate and slide it under your bungie cords on the front. If you're not fishing then you don't need rodholders on that day. So put another soda crate under the bungie cords to hold the cooler of beer or soda. If you drink alcohol, do it in moderation and ease have a designated driver.

  • As of 8/23/11 I have not lost a rod or fish or crate. I have given everyone the concept of the fishing crate but you can modify it to your satisfaction.

  • You go ahead and do that if it makes you happy. My idea is just as good as rodholders except I have less holes in my kayak. For those who know if you take a piece of metal and bend it back and forth, it breaks. Same thing happens with plastic polyethlene. Also, a big fish is going to snap your pole.

  • I think rodholders that are built into the kayak are better, more stable, and usually waterproof. That crate looks like it would fly off if a fish was pullin on it. So if someone tries to sell me a kayak with rodholders I'm gonna say YES.
