@xkbones The problem with leaving the past where it is, without reflecting on it whatsoever, is that the new generations cannot appreciate certain cultural attitudes and heritage. What do you mean your dad never "forgave Crete.."? Do you mean "never forgot"? And do you mean Cyprus instead of Crete? Two different islands, you might have been confused. Which proves the point I am making. New generations leave the past behind and learn nothing about it. There goes our history, just like that.

If it were that simple. My dad was from Greece and came here in the 50's (USA that is). He -still- never forgave Crete being divided up half to Turkey. I think it's a cultural thing over there that still sticks. Though I agree with you, past should stay where it was, in the past. There's no need for senseless fighting for stuff that happened years and years ago.

@acorduende How True im happy to see that there are still people out there that know what they are talking about.
the greek on his bouzouki, the turk on his baglama saz, the kurd on his tenbur, the assyrian on his tanboura, the arab on his buzuq, the armenian on his tar, the georgian on his panduri, the persian on his setar...all of them express the complex ethos of the human condition.all of them are beautifully different and beautifully similar at the same time because all of them are human and created by the same God. Peace.
