My humble beginnings: The Swing portion of Moving People Dance Theater's annual jazz Nutcracker performance. My first show ever! I am the one in the red skirt in the middle with the halter top and fabulous hair. Performed to the very long Benny Goodman version of Sing, Sing, Sing!

  • Let's see, about half of the people in this number were lindy hoppers, and the other half were people from the dance company. The guy I'm dancing with and do the solo with is Mike Garcia, he choreographed the swing section, and he's been teaching/dancing in Santa Fe for about 10 years, a definite Frankie fan. Thanks for the compliments!

  • wow, for a first performance ever, that was incredible! absolutely fabulous. how long had you been dancing before this?

  • hah ha! thanks!

I started dancing 14 months earlier....not that there are only, like 3 swingouts in the entire routine!

  • very basic footwork for those two. might be 'jocks' so the got the lead. short guy in the back was actually on time.

  • the two male leads at the front sucked..

  • Great stuff by everyone involved.

  • Niiiice!

    Great Charlestons.

You sure look great and "swing".

(Btw: my brother wants to dance the Lindy hop with you Eden :) )

  • we're do'in that same song at my school and our dance moves don't look half as good as that did

  • Of the guys, Mike, I, & Phil were dedicated lindy hoppers. This was back in December of 2003 and I only started learning lindy summer of 2002 before Mike and Eden met. So I had been doing it for about a year and a half. 2 other guys knew some lindy, but one preferred tango and the other salsa. Of the girls, Eden, Sarah, and Erica were dedicated lindy hoppers. However Carmela and Sina (sp?) knew it well, but were primarily tango/ballet dancers respectively. The rest learned for the show.

  • that looks like a lot of fun!!!

  • You still were totally on it, had a great feel for it, danced wonderfully (those charlestons were amazing!), and followed beautifully.

How many of these people were actually lindy hoppers? And who directed/choreographed it? they seemed to really know what lindy is about even though I'm getting that this show had all different kinds of dance in it.
