Shot with my little dinky camera -- Since my break shots have been an amusement for many patrons at our pool hall, it might not make sense to compound the ridicule by using a phenolic tip break cue. But yet, yesterday I finally got a fancy Longoni break cue from Italy, sprouting a phenolic tip.

As you can see in this video, the very first shot I try using this cue, I completely miss the cue ball. And the next shot isn't much better, but yet I manage to pocket three balls, and the next after that, which is a fairly good break I only pocket one ball. Then my buddy Colin Mazaika (a semi-professional pool player) breaks the way it should be done... and he doesn't make any balls at all. How pathetic.

Anyways, somehow it feels like the worse I hit the rack, the more balls I'll pocket -- i.e., I have no control whatsoever.

And speaking about control, or lack thereof -- since this cue is also a jump cue (it has two butt-joints) I'm also gonna use it for my jumping. I'm sure someone could write a short novel about my jump shots, but for now I'll leave it at that people are often in tears watching my balls fly off the table (even the pool-hall owner is crying).

  • "Army of Me"

  • What bijork song is that?

  • ok, fair enough :p I know very little about about pool.... thought i'd got that fact right but i guess not lol

  • actually more than a fair share of players use their shoulder in the break thats what gives the cue a arc motion, if practiced its quite effective.

  • can see why your shots go wrong from vid.... cue should move in straight line from back hand to tip to target, straight the entire time until you finish your shot.... otherwise it's impossible to aim :p

  • i would drag balls across the table if its an expensive cue, theres nothing worse than having little dents and scuff's in a cue 2 piss you off while your playing, i used to go through cues like mad now i aim to really take care of my cue.

    Shes a beauty lol

    Safe

  • maybe you should try a slow break with different types of spin on the ball?
