The ring wasn't good as they are singing here. It was destroyed because of its evil control over men. Not sure what story they are referring to?? 2:55 Xanadu from Rush??

One of the most bombastic songs ever written. So bombastic it could be used as a national anthem for some nation.

Tommy got over the addiction. Plus, without him Styx wouldn't be Styx. JY and Tommy are great together. All true fans of either of the two know this.

Definitely the great guitar god JY

music no matter where the source, is hope and inspriation you just need to find it and let it take you where it will altho i,m like most of you the 80's is where most of it will be found.

Although JY was the last member to round out the original lineup that would be renamed Styx in 1970 (they were known as Tradewinds from 1964-66 and TW4 from 1966-70), he is now the only original member left.
From 1970-75, the Styx lineup was Chuck & John Panozzo (bass and drums respectively), Dennis DeYoung (keyboards/vocals), JY (guitar/vocals) and John "JC" Curulewski (guitar/keyboards/vocals). But this period wasn't a real popular one, though (Tommy Shaw would change that).

@RedwoodTheElf I don't think this song has much of anything to do with Lord of the Rings... it's more in keeping with the theme of the PIeces of Eight album: "What does success mean?" Styx had gone after the "ring," and after many years and 7 albums had gotten it ("I became a lord this year"). So what does it mean now? ("We still need the hope it brings"). The use of the ring & lords analogy may have borrowed from the story, but I don't think it goes beyond that.

James Young is unfortunately not recognized for his amazing talent of his true rock singing voice and his great ability to play the guitar. I want to hear mor of him and NOT Tommy Shaw. Tommy Shaw was a drug addict and he could not control his actions. JAMES YOUNG LIVES FOR FOREVER, and he should think about making more of his own records

Uh why do you have pics of JY? Tommy sings it!

Dennis beat them all hands down!
I happen to believe that James Young has also been very under-rated. You don't hear much about him. I'm a long time Styx fan.
