I totally understand where you are coming from and do agree in a way. The only thing I have a hard time with is seeing the children that really have a hard time and don't get it at all and they just guess. I almost think it should be done as a seperate activity where it can be explained and more time spent on it. It's one of those things that they need to learn, maybe in a small group activity or something and then add it into circle once the children have more of the concept of it. ?? :)

I heard the same thing from one of my college courses. I teach 2-3 year olds and I started off one day doing the calendar because our classroom has one... but I could just tell they didn't understand. So all we do now is the song of days of the week, then the number of the day and we move on.

I know this is from awhile ago, but I just found it. I do calendar in my 3-5 class, I know they don't understand exactly what they are saying, but I think it's good to expose them to the names of months, days and so forth. My logic is that as they do become aware of the passage of time, they will already have the vocab to apply. Thoughts?
