Heritage Special - Steam Engine

On the occasion of Northern Railway Heritage Month, a special train using vintage carriages,hauled by a WP Class broad-gauge steam locomotive No. 7200, weighing 102.4 tonnes, with wheel arrangement 4-6-2. This locomotive was among the first 16 prototypes received from Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadephia, USA in 1947, and was retired from service in May 1987. See this bullet nosed beauty in action as children from a nearby slum cluster race to have a close look, as the train departs from Delhi Safdarjung Station at 10:56 A.M. on Jan 20, 2007. The rubbish [and stench] alongside the tracks bordering slum settlements is a common sight in major cities - one wishes it weren't so.
