I don't know...she's good but out of role, totally inespressive and very average in the end. But...Is it the power of marketing...or I ask to myself: have the people who go crazy for Garanca ever heard Callas, Berganza, Cernei...
I don't see how can somebody go crazy on this. She's boring and cold. Carmen is supposed to set you on fire....

@Zackypups I prefer Elina Garanca, because the role of Carmen was composed for a Mezzo-Soprano, not for a Soprano, besides, Carmen was a gypsy, her voice must be dark and smooth, not squeaky (in the good way of the word) and light. sorry but, sopranos singing Carmen it's not OK.

i've heard both.... only difference is perhaps an octive maybe two.... both are equal in quality.... but higher is slightly more soothing

Why do people mention Callas? you can't compare, Elina is a Mezzo-soprano, Callas was a Coloratura-Spinto Soprano; and Bizet composed this aria for a mezzo-soprano, I still don't know why sopranos sing Carmen arias, they shouldn't, they have a lot of Soprano roles, they don't need to sing Mezzo's arias. MY opinion is, I prefer a Mezzo singing the role that was written for her type of voice, rather than a soprano practically stealing arias from the Mezzo-Sopranos. have a good day.

C'est la première fois que je trouve une interprétation aussi émouvante que celle de Callas. Superbe.
