  • Are those drop outs (0:57, 1:36 and 8:43) already on the CD or are they caused by YouTube?

  • The variations are on separate tracks and couldn't get them to merge together with my software with out those drop outs! I tried editing them out but it sounded even worse :-)

  • If I played loke this my teacher would hit me. Sounds like somebody tring to be French and not themselfs.

  • David Briggs has studied in France, his big musical hero is French and he loves the French improv tradition, so that must have something to do with it. Mr Briggs can improvise in any style, French, German, free-form, classical, romantic, modern etc. I just happen to love this style and this player :-)

  • @JFSnail ...could have done with a more dignified theme than old macdonalds farm... bit of a waste of talent...

  • @diapason16 The liner notes accompanying the CD state, "A theme was chosen from a hat immediately before the beginning of the improvisation..."

The notes also mention that the foot and mouth epidemic that caused chaos throughout the UK farming community during this time (2001), made the theme quite appropriate in a strange way. And as for talent, he demonstrates this by making 25 mins of music from that theme, surely there is room for a degree of levity at an organ concert?

  • @ds1868 - nope, the Gloucester organ hasn't been anywhere near its best since HNB butchered it...

  • @MEPPO06 - well I did hear Cochereau - but, sadly, only once - and far from feeling that I had "heard it all" I wanted to hear it again and again and much, *much* more. I feel the same way about David Briggs.

  • @diapason16 waste of talent? the fact that he could do so much with such a simple theme shows massive talent!!

  • Just another Cochereau re-run - very clever, but can't say I think it's all that interesting. When you've heard it once, you've heard it all.

  • Thanks for responding.

Those problems are everyday occurrences while editing music but it is easier to handle them with raw material because it is possible to control the way takes are recorded.
