A recently completed Topsy 3 Organ from John Smith plans playing a very nice arrangement from Alan Pell. This is the simplest version of the Topsy model using a single rank of 22 melody pipes 14 counter melody 8 bass and 12 accompaniment. The plans are available from John at www.johnsmithbusker.co.uk and has lots of useful links etc to other builders and parts suppliers. Due to the camera the bass is quite indistinct but in real life it sounds much better.

  • Hello, what a lovely organ, does building one of these require any major skill? i know one end of a screwdriver from the other. Also do they need tuning? Thanks Again.

  • @fedupworking Not particularly, I am not a carpenter and often measure once ,cut twice!!! You need to be patient but this is certainly the easiest one to make to get a good result as there is no pneumatic vavles to make. It does need a tuning meter to set the pipes up and to check occasionally but they are readily available cheaply. Have a look at Johns site for the plans where there are some links to other builders. I have since added a second row of melody pipes recently and need to refilm.

  • Thanks for replying, i really fancy trying to build one, my only worry is that it will end up sounding like Les Dawson on the piano! Thanks Again.

  • I am currently building a Topsy 3 myself and i hope i do as good a job as you have done. All the best...

  • well done , nice sound obviously well made and pretty. Can not wait to see it with theGlock, extra octave pipes, tremulant and vibrato added.

  • Nice job I hope to be not to far behind you
