La Rochelle is excellent and it's inhabitants are very friendly and welcoming. I would love to live there it is so beautiful.

@sturdle In my opinion, locals are polite people. When i asked for directions, they answered me and some came with me. I think it's a great place and i want to go again.

@sturdle Just came back from there in December. Same thing as you had. Paris is worse tho. I guess it's just a French thing. ;]

how did the locals treat you??? we found them offensive and beastly...that was 1993 so they may have altered...and yes we did have a smattering of French and tried to use it but were scoffed at and treated with disdain plus exploited when we dared to call for a meal or drink...shame really, the area was gorgeous. And we went down in a B reg Sierra 1600..

People in this part of France are usually polite and well-educated. So, I'm surprised about what you tell me. They also treat tourists well. May be you were not lucky...
