From 1:59 to 2:16 it talks of an increase in the number of Earthquakes and quotes earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquake­s/world/historical.php I wrote to the USGS and they confirmed my suspicions: The increase in earthquakes on the website are "because of the way the earthquakes are documented. We have more information about more recent earthquakes than we do about earthquakes that occurred a long time ago. "
